About the Artist

Historic Images for Today

Collectors from around the world have discovered the joy of owning oil paintings by Marty Le Messurier.

Marty grew up in New England to a passionate, sport-loving family.  She considered a career in physical education, as she was a gifted athlete herself.  Fortunately, an art teacher noticed Marty’s artistic talents, and he encouraged her to take another path into the world of art.

Her formal art education came from  Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia, PA.   There, Marty majored in textile design.  It is not hard to see  the influence of the Textile Design training in Marty’s oil paintings!

Since moving to Arizona thirty plus years ago, the "Heritage of the West" has influenced her artistic style.  Her favorite subjects are Native American artifacts: an old pair of moccasins, historic baskets, pottery, or an old weaving.  Her paintings display a mastery of realism with a 3-D quality. Working in oil, she is able to produce a luminous, textural feel.  Attention to detail and use of color and light achieved by glazing one color over another, are signatures of her work.  Depending on the size and complexity, a painting can take three to six weeks or longer to complete.

Marty’s adventurous spirit is reflected in a special category of art she calls, “Travel Escapes”. These escapes, here and abroad, have produced works as diverse as an English Garden, a window in Italy, a butcher shop in Belgium  or an old door in Santa Fe, NM . We hope Martylem.com becomes one of your favorite virtual travel escapes for superior artwork.  Welcome!
